Eric De Nooy, 30

Eric De Nooy, 30, of Rock Valley, died Sunday, Mar. 9, 2014, at his Westview Home residence in Rock Valley. Interment was in Memory Gardens Cemetery of Sioux Center. A memorial service was held Thursday, Mar. 13, at Bethel Christian Reformed Church of Sioux Center with the Rev. Bradd Nymeyer officiating. The De Nooy family prefers memorials be directed to Hope Haven or the United Reformed Church of Sioux Center.

Eric De Nooy was born Apr. 7, 1983, in Grinnell to Carroll and Deb (Draayer) De Nooy. The family moved to Sioux Center in 1987. Eric attended River Valley School in Rock Valley. At the age of 18, he moved to Village Northwest in Sheldon. In 2005, Eric moved to Hope Haven in Rock Valley where he lived in a waiver home and later at the Westview Homes.

Eric worked at Parkview Industries in Rock Valley. He loved working on belts and having fun with the staff. He also enjoyed going away on Friday nights with his fellow roommates and staff to eat out and to see the signs. Eric went on an amazing summer vacation at Becker’s Resort in Lake Benton, MN. While on vacation, he camped, rode in a boat, and, of course, threw rocks into the water. He loved being outside in God’s creation! Eric enjoyed walking trails, throwing sticks and stones, and watching the leaves blow.

Weekends were filled with Saturday afternoon visits to Grandma’s house and finding words in the Shopper or fixing puzzles. When home on Saturdays, he enjoyed trips to Hy-Vee and Bomgaars just to get their flyers. He loved papers. Saturday evenings were filled with pizza parties and movies. Sundays, he would walk trails with family and then return to his home for the day. He loved listening to the old-fashioned hymns on KSOU and going to church in the evening. He liked paging through the Bible as he listened. He was a baptized member of the United Reformed Church.

Survivors are his parents, Carroll and Deb De Nooy of Sioux Center; a brother, Loren (Tara) De Nooy and their daughter, Savanna of Sioux Center; a sister, Rindy (Doug) Veldhuisen of Tabor, AB, Canada; his grandma, Lill Draayer of Rock Valley; and many uncles, aunts, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Andrew and LaVerda De Nooy and Ed Draayer.
