Elva Vos, 90, of Pella, died Oct. 28, 2025. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m., Monday, Nov. 3, at Calvary Christian Reformed Church in Pella. Interment was in Sully Cemetery. Memorials may be given to Christian Reformed World Missions (Resonate Global Mission).
Elva June Vos was born Aug. 12, 1935, to Cornie and Henrietta (Swank) Vos at their home north of Sully.
Elva attended various country schools, Sully Christian School, and American School of Cor-respondence while helping on the farm. She worked at Sully Co-op Creamery and at Pine Rest Hospital in Grand Rapids, MI. Elva also took practical nurses training at St. Luke’s Methodist Hospital in Cedar Rapids. Following that, she worked one year at Mercy Hospital in Oskaloosa and four years at Blodgett Hospital in Grand Rapids, MI, while attending Reformed Bible Institute (now Kuyper College). She also worked for Christian Reformed Board of Home Missions with her twin sister in Brigham City, UT. She obtained her bachelor’s degree in nursing from University of Utah and her master’s degree in health services management from Leslie College of Cambridge, MA. From there, she moved to Gallup, NM, where she worked as a public health nurse under the Government Indian Health Service, South Dakota, Virginia, Nebraska, and Wyoming where she continued to work as a PHN. Elva retired from nursing in 1997 and traveled with her twin sister Erma before settling in Pella in 2006. She always enjoyed working with different ethnic groups and cultures.
Elva was a member of Calvary Christian Reformed Church, Mission Circle, and Thursday Night Alive.
Those left to cherish her memory are her sister-in-law Mavis Vos, 11 nieces and nephews and their families, and a host of relatives and friends.
Elva was preceded in death by her twin sister Erma, parents, brothers Wilbur (Cornelia) Vos, Melvin (Lorraine) Vos, and Ivan Vos.
