Elois M. Ewing, 89

Elois M. Ewing, 89, of Montezuma and formerly of Pomeroy, died Saturday, Nov. 19, 2016, at the Comfort House in Pella. Funeral ser-vices were held Wednesday, Nov. 23, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Pomeroy, with Pastor Ken Ahntholz officiating. Burial followed the service in Union Cemetery, Pomeroy.

Elois Marie Carlson was born Sept. 26, 1927, to Art and Mary (Mohr) Carlson on a farm near Fonda. Elois graduated high school from Pomeroy Community School. She lived in Pomeroy for most of her life except for the last 13 years when she moved to Montezuma to be closer to family.

Elois enjoyed playing Bingo, dancing, sewing, playing cards, and most importantly, just spending time with her loved ones. Above all, her family meant everything to her. Honesty, generosity, and hard work were what she built her life on. Even though nothing came easy for her, she always remained optimistic and never complained. Her smile and laugh were so contagious that they could light up a room. She was a wonderful lady and will surely be missed by many.

Elois is survived by Laurie (who was raised as a daughter by Elois) (Josh) Loftus of Searsboro and their children (grandchildren) Dalton, Mallory, Mayley, and Maggy; twin daughters Sylvia (Loren) Jessen of Baxter and Cynthia (Steve) Lange of Rockwell City; grandchildren Daniel (Tracy) Jessen of Baxter, David Jessen of Baxter, Calvin (Ronda) Lange of Humboldt, Jamie (Shawna) Lange of Dakota City; six stepchildren, two of which she raised - Connie (Ewing) Flippin and Becky (Ewing) Leech and their children; and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by four of her children, Merle, Carol, Charlene, and Beverly whose lives were tragically taken in a house fire in Pomeroy in 1964; husband, Elmer Ewing; sister, Helen (Carlson) McConaughy; and her parents.
