Eleanor Veurink, 86

 

Funeral services for Eleanor Veurink, 86, of Milaca, MN, were at 11 a.m., Friday, Apr 5, at Christian Reformed Church in Pease, MN. Interment followed at Pease Cemetery. Eleanor passed away Apr. 1, 2024, at M Health Fairview in Minneapolis, MN.

Eleanor Veurink was born in Prinsburg, MN, Dec. 3, 1937, to Garriet and Anna (Hoffman) Marcus. She started school in a country school-District 101, and when that closed, she went to Prinsburg Christian. Since Prinsburg did not have all 12 grades, she finished at Western Christian High School in Hull in 1955. She then attended Calvin University in Grand Rapids, MI, and started teaching in Sully for three years. She continued her college education and taught at Pease Christian School. After three years, she moved to Sumas, WA, and then to Everett, WA,. She then returned to Pease and married Gerrit Veurink in Prinsburg on June 29, 1963. They resided on the farm and to this union 12 children were born: Lori (John) Monroe, Gary (Kelly) Bemboom, Karla (Donnie) Lueck, Brian, Caryn (Craig) Maalis, Rachel (Troy) Weidner, Randy (Gina), Kim (Tony) Trunk, Shannon (Kurt) Larson, Lugene (LuAnn), Julie (Brett) Mattson, and Dawn (Shawn Fundine) Van Lith. She is also survived by 32 grandchildren and 16 and soon-to-be 17 great-grandchildren.

Eleanor enjoyed baking, canning, and just being with her large family. She worked with Lori in her daycare for 18 years.  She loved the Lord and participated in many Bible studies, either by attending or leading. She worked with D.A.C. Bible studies and Crossroads Bible Institute-reviewing and writing a letter of encouragement each week, which she loved and did for 13 years. Through this ministry, she reached 875 people.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 2020; four brothers Dick G., William, Francis, and Calvin; two sisters Ann Brouwer and Selma Zondervan; one grandson Gabriel Veurink.

Also surviving along with her children are sister Josie Swart of Prinsburg, MN; and brother Gerald (Kathy) Marcus of Willmar, MN.
