Eileen D. Johnson, 68, of Newton and formerly of Monroe, passed away on Monday, Aug. 30, 2021, at UnityPoint Finley Hospital in Dubuque. Funeral services were held Friday, Sept. 3, at First Baptist Church of Monroe with burial at Silent City Cemetery, Monroe.
The daughter of Lloyd and Katherine (Ver Heul) Nolin, Eileen was born Sept. 15, 1952, on the family farm just east of Monroe. She graduated from Monroe High School in 1970 and attended DMACC. May 27, 1972, she was united in marriage to Larry Johnson in Des Moines. Eileen worked at several places during her career, most recently at Walmart and Goodwill. Eileen enjoyed gardening, playing games, reading, playing piano, and she spent many hours volunteering at Hope Ministries and Discover Hope. Her greatest joy, however, was the time spent with her grandchildren.
Those left to honor her memory include her husband, Larry; two sons, Eric (Amie) Johnson and Kevin (Sara) Johnson; six grandchildren, Kyndra, Cassie, Isaac, Madison, Noah, and Benjamin; a brother, Jerry (Joan) Nolin; a sister, Janet Clark; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents; a sister, Connie Barr; and an infant daughter, Laurie.
