Edna Lucille Ozinga was born Nov. 5, 1919, in Mahaska County on the County Line Farm, six miles south of Sully. Edna was the second of 10 children (three boys and seven girls) born to Neal and Hilda Grandia Van Wyk. When Edna was living, she was the oldest living  descendent of Willem Van Wyk (1849-1917). Edna attended Iron Clad Country School in Jasper County and attended Sully High School for one year. She worked at Fowler Telephone Company in Pella, her favorite job, until moving to a farm near Pella to live with her brother Harold during the war years. In 1946, she married Jacob Ozinga at First Reformed Church, Pella. They were the parents of one son, Dennis James.

Edna and Jake began married life on the farm and after a few years moved to Pella. For several years Edna was employed at Boomsma Produce, and then worked at Pella Corp (Rolscreen) for 17 years. After her retirement from Pella Corp and Jake’s retirement from Vermeer, they moved to Mountain Home, AR, and later returned to Iowa. Edna said she was “a master at moving” as she moved 24 times in her life!

Jake died in 1998 when they were living in Oskaloosa. Two years later, Edna moved to Fair Haven East in Pella. In 2010, she became a resident of Jefferson Place in Pella where she was well cared for and loved. This past November she celebrated her 100th birthday. Edna enjoyed gardening, camping, and fishing.
