Doyle, the son of Harry and Harriet (Vande Kamp) Van De Krol, was born Mar. 14, 1927, in Sully. He grew up on a farm near Lynnville and attended country school. He worked on the farm until he joined the Navy at 17 years of age. He was married to Bertha Heemsbergen in Grinnell on Feb. 25, 1947. They were married 61 years and lived most of their life in Sully, where Bertha was Postmaster. Doyle worked for Verwers Well Company and became owner after Everett Verwers’ death in 1955.

After retirement, Doyle enjoyed working in the garden and growing flowers. He and Bertha enjoyed wintering in Arizona until her health declined. Doyle moved from Sully to Pella in 2011, and in March 2015, moved to the Montezuma Nursing Center.

Those left to honor Doyle’s memory include his two daughters, Shirley Van De Krol of Lewisville, TX, and Gayle Van De Krol of Sully; and his brother, Robert (Wanda) Van De Krol of Searsboro.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Bertha, in 2008; and his sister, Iva (John) Arkema (Joe) Harthoorn.
