Doris Snodgrass, 91

Doris J. Snodgrass, 91, of Sully, died Thursday, July 30, 2020, at her home with her family by her side.

A public funeral service was held Monday, Aug. 3, at Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell with Pastor Dave Rex, Bar None Cowboy Church of Newton, officiating. Interment was at Sully Cemetery. A public reception followed at Sully Community Church. Memorials may be designated to the Doris Snodgrass Memorial Fund to benefit local organizations of the family’s choice and mailed in care of the Smith Funeral Home, PO Box 368, Grinnell, IA 50112.

Doris Jean Rohlfing was born  July 21, 1929, in Grinnell, the daughter of Henry Lee and Floy Bell (Wheeler) Rohlfing. She was raised on the family farm near Malcom and attended Malcom schools.

Doris was united in marriage to Donovan Carrold Snodgrass on Apr. 14, 1949, in Malcom. The couple lived in Grinnell for several years and later moved to Sully in the early 1960s. Doris was a nurse’s aide at the Mayflower Community in Grinnell. She was a lifetime member of Sully Community Church and later was a member of the Bar None Cowboy Church in Newton.

Doris dearly loved her family and cherished every moment spent with her grandchildren. Her enjoyments were riding in the truck with Donovan, mowing, and going to horse shows and sales. She will be remembered for her kindness, for being thrifty, for always putting other’s needs ahead of hers, and for the strong love of her family.

Doris is survived by seven children, Dennis (Pam) Snodgrass of Sully, Patti (Mark) McCormick of Del Ray Beach, FL, Barb (Mike) Mitchell of Pella, Jim (Sandy) Snodgrass of Kellogg, Kathy (Dennis) Moes of Dandridge, TN, Don (Debbie) Snodgrass of Boynton Beach, FL, and Steven (Chris) Snodgrass of Tucson, AZ; 26 grandchildren; 49 great-grand-children; and her sister, Karen Hudson of New Sharon.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Donovan; great- grandson Bentley Snodgrass; great- granddaughter Charlotte Denman; and daughters-in-law, Barbara Snodgrass and Nancy Snodgrass.
