Doris Lowry, 90

Doris Lowry, 90, of Grinnell and formerly of Montezuma, died Monday, Feb. 26, 2024, at St. Francis Manor in Grinnell.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Apr. 13, at Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell. Interment will be in West Liberty Cemetery near Montezuma. The family will receive friends at the visitation held from 4-7 p.m., Friday, Apr. 12, at Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell. Doris Berdinia Arthur was born Oct. 28, 1933, in Searsboro to Cecil Hobert and Pansy Blossom (Gerard) Arthur. She was raised in Searsboro and graduated from Searsboro High School in 1951.

Doris was united in marriage to Richard E. Lowry on June 18, 1951, in Iowa City. Their marriage was blessed with four children: Ronald, Debbie, Dennis, and David. They farmed south of Grinnell for many years. Their family farm was later recognized as a Century Farm by the State of Iowa.

They retired from farming and moved to an acreage west of Montezuma. Doris later owned and operated Lowry Real Estate.  She was a past member of Oak Grove Friends Church south of Grinnell. Her enjoyments were baking, acrylic oil painting, crafts, and collecting antiques. She cherished every moment with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Doris is survived by her sons Ronald (Becky Hauser) Lowry of Grinnell and Dennis (Barbie) Lowry of Montezuma; her daughter Debbie (Kirk) Halstead of Grinnell; 11 grandchildren; 24 great-grand-children; one great-great-grandchild; and sister Shirley Tice of Kellerton. She was preceded in death by her parents; son David Lowry; grandson Richard James Lowry; brothers Robert, Kenneth, Keith, and Ward Arthur; and sisters Margaret Stemsrud Turbaugh, Betty Lash, and Eva McDowell.
