Donna R. Hakken, 88, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, Aug. 15, 2021. She was preceded in death by her husband Rev. Bernard D. Hakken who served Sully First Reformed Church from 1978-1992. She will be lovingly remembered by her children: Ruth (Douglas) Roosien, John (Susan) Hakken, Daniel (Lynda) Hakken, Timothy (Kellie) Hakken, Matthew (Amy) Hakken, Mary (Seishi) Okamoto, Andrew (Cara) Hakken; her 14 grandchildren; and her 14 great-grandchildren. Donna was born in Grand Rapids, MI, to Cora and John Hoogerhyde. She attended Union High School and Hope College. Donna and her husband served the Lord as missionaries in the Philippines and in Reformed Churches in Michigan and Iowa. Donna was also a high school teacher in Iowa. Her greatest joy was her family. A Celebration of Life service was held at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 23, at Martin Reformed Church, Martin, MI. The Rev. Mark Heijerman officiated. In honor of Donna and in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Reformed Church of America – Widows and Orphans Fund.
