Donald Lee Henderson, 94, of Grinnell and formerly of Lynnville, passed away Mar. 27, 2026, at St. Francis Manor in Grinnell. Graveside services will be held at a later date. Arrangements are being handled by the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory in Newton.
Don was born in Albia on Apr. 1, 1931, to James Floyd and Ethyl Marie (Carlson) Henderson. Don was the youngest of five and grew up on the family farm near Lovilia. He graduated from Albia High School in 1948. After high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Army. He did two tours of service in Korea. In 1951, he married Carol J. Cross. They were blessed with three children: Norman (Vicki) of Grinnell, Jim (Erin) of Newton, and Beth Welsh of Grinnell.
Don always enjoyed being around family, especially being a grandpa. He enjoyed being around horses, woodworking, and having coffee with friends.
He is survived by his three children, seven grandchildren, four stepgrandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and nine stepgreat-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, three sisters, his brother, one grandson, and one stepgreat-grandson.
Don will be greatly missed.
