Dennis Joe Verhey was the youngest child born to Peter and Metje (Alblas) Verhey on Dec. 10, 1959, in Grinnell.

Dennis attended Sully Christian School and was a 1978 graduate of Pella Christian High School.

June 7, 1979, he was united in marriage to Sharon McGregor in the Calvary Christian Reformed Church in Pella. To this union they were blessed with two children Matthew and Nicole. Dennis did many odd jobs: Newspaper delivery, Gosselink’s TV, gas station, Vermeer, worked as a machine operator for Pella Corp for 25 years, and worked for Hy-Vee and Central College.

Dennis loved the What Cheer Flea Market and was a vendor for 38 years. Swap meets, auctions, and “up-cycling” junk brought him immense joy. He was a die-hard New Orleans Saints fan since their inception in 1967. When his daughter became a Hawkeye, so did Dennis and Sharon. He also loved his black cats, traveling with his family, and watching movies. He filled his life with friends and family. He was always ready with a smile.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife Sharon; and their family Matthew Verhey of Kansas City, MO, and Nicole (Collin) Knoll, of Cedar Rapids; his father-in-law Kenneth McGregor; his siblings Mary Miller, Micky Dunsbergen, Gerrit Verhey, Pete (Carol) Verhey, Nellie (Mark) Vander Schel, and Randy (Linda) Verhey; his siblings-in-law Pam Verhey, Janet (Kevin) Borts, Jean McGregor and Dakota, Kathleen (Frank) Vander Broek, and Donna (Monte) Busselman.

Dennis was preceded in death by his parents; mother-in-law Charlene McGregor; brother Abe Verhey; sister Elizabeth Sneller; sisters-in-law Linda Verhey and Carolyn McGregor; and brothers-in-law Jerald Sneller, Dick Dunsbergen, and Walter Miller.
