Dennis Engle, 70

“If we live, we live for the Lord; and if we die, we die for the Lord. So, whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord” (Roman 14:8 NIV). Coupled with the babble of his grandson, Otto, these were the last words Dennis Duane Engle, 70, heard on Jan. 22, 2017.

Denny, the son of Harry and Pauline (Terpstra) Engle, was born Oct. 17, 1946, in Newton. He was a graduate of Lynnville-Sully High School, served in the Iowa National Guard, and worked at the Maytag Company for 30 years, retiring in 2000. Denny loved coyote hunting in the winter with the CB handle of “Trailblazer,” motorcycle riding in the summer, drinking coffee with his friends, and tinkering in the house with his son.

Denny is survived by his children, Troy (Patty) Engle of Newton and Tami (Rob) Sundquist of Lewisville, TX; grandchildren, Leila, Zane, and Otto; and siblings, Verland (Alice) Engle of Pella and JoLynn (Randall) Renaud of Altoona.

He is preceded in death by his parents; wife of 30 years, Kathy Schafer Engle in 1998; and wife of five years, Marsha Page Engle in 2008.

Troy and Tami will greet friends from 4:30-6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 26, at Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory, Newton. In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Neil Smith National Wildlife Refuge may be left at the funeral home.
