Delia Adrianna Van Kooten was the daughter of Cornelius and Jennie (Dieleman) Van Kooten. She was born on her parents' farm near Sully on Oct. 29, 1931. Delia attended Sully Christian School and joined Sully Christian Reformed Church at the age of 20.

July 29, 1952, she was united in marriage to Johnnie E. De Jong at Sully Christian Reformed Church, and to this union four sons were born: Bryce John, Bryan Eugene, Brent Dean, and Brad Lee. Following Johnnie's discharge from the Army, they farmed for nearly 40 years together on the same farm where he was born three miles south of Sully. In 1995, Johnnie and Delia moved into Sully.

Delia and Johnnie were members of Sully First Reformed Church where she served as a family night teacher. She enjoyed being a part of Faith Circle and serving during the winter months and also enjoyed coffee time on Wednesday mornings. Delia liked crocheting, embroidery, puzzles, and reading, which helped her pass a lot of time. She truly loved watching her children’s and grandchildren's sporting events and activities. One of the highlights of their lives was a trip to Greece.

Wednesday, Nov. 25, 2020, Johnnie passed away at the age of 89. Delia moved from Pella Manor back into her own home in Sully where she remained until her health began to decline. Delia passed away at Hospice of Pella Comfort House on May 24. She loved every one of her family members and they held a special place in her heart. They are her four sons and their families: Bryce (Bryna) De Jong of Oskaloosa, Bryan (Carna) De Jong of Lynnville, Brent (Sandy) De Jong of Sully, and Brad (Stacy) De Jong of Pella; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and her sister Norma (Carroll) Harthoorn and brother Ed (Judy) Van Kooten, all of Sully; and her sisters-in-law Wilma Van Kooten and Wanda (Tom) Slagl, all of Pella.

Delia was preceded in death by her parents; and sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Henry and Virginia Van Kooten, Jean and Kenneth Vos, Ida and Alberthus Harsselaar, Clarence (Lois and Norman Van Wyk) Van Kooten, Daniel Van Kooten, Delmer Van Kooten, and Cornelia and Charlie Jansen.
