David A. Crook, 62

David A. Crook, 62, of Newton died Mar. 9, 2014. A private family burial will be held at a later date at the Palo Alto Cemetery in rural Newton.

Memorial service was at the Wallace Family Funeral Home on Thursday, Mar. 13.

Those left to honor Dave’s memory are his wife, Sue of Newton; daughter, Emily (Cory) Barnard of Cedar Rapids; his three grandchildren, Logan, Talan, and Sydney Barnard; his mother-in-law, Vivian Stein of Newton; his sister, Deb (Marty) Cross of Newton; and his many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his son, Ben, in 1999; his parents; and his father-in-law, Kenneth Stein.

Dave was a graduate of Newton High School in 1969. He was also a graduate of Marshalltown Community College in 1971.

Dave worked for the Maytag Company from 1971-2006; he was a supervisor. He then started Dave’s Dirt Works.

Dave was a past vice-president and a safety instructor for the ATV Association. Dave enjoyed canoeing, three-wheeling, biking, and all things outdoors. He loved dogs and cats, and he fed the pheasants on his land.

Memorials to the Skiff Medical Center Cancer Clinic or to the Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation for the Central Iowa Trail Network may be left at the funeral home. Memorials may also be mailed to the funeral home, please add, Attn.: Crook Family on the envelope.
