Darrel Van Der Kamp, 77

Darrel Van Der Kamp, of Ankeny, died peace-fully at the age of 77 on Sunday, Apr. 28, 2024, in Des Moines.

Visitation will be held 5-7 p.m., Thurs-day, May 2, at Memorial Services of Iowa, located at 4208 North Ankeny Blvd., Ankeny. A private family burial will be held Friday, May 3, at Berwick Cemetery on 62nd Avenue in Delaware Township at 2 p.m.  followed by funeral services at 3 p.m. at Memorial Services of Iowa.

Darrel Eugene Van Der Kamp,  the son of Ralph and Dorothy (Swank) Van Der Kamp, was born  June 28, 1946, in rural Sully. He lived most of his life on the farm near Kellogg. Darrel graduated from Lynnville-Sully High School in 1964. He served in the Army in Vietnam from 1965 to1967 when he was honorably discharged as a Sergeant.

Nov. 24, 1967, Darrel was united in marriage with Brenda Nikkel of Sully. They were blessed with one daughter Jana and two sons Brent and Alex. Darrel was a lifelong farmer and also drove a truck for Ambassador Steel. In 2010, Darrel and Brenda moved to Ankeny to be near their children. Darrel loved spending time with his family, grandchildren, and great-granddaughter as well as playing cards with friends and meeting up with his Army buddies.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother-in-law Kern Nikkel; and his in-laws Jim and Anna Mae (De Cook) Nikkel; and infant grandson Rex Van Der Kamp (Alex and Danielle).

Darrel is survived by his wife Brenda Van Der Kamp of Ankeny; children Jana Van Der Kamp of Ankeny, Brent (Stephanie) Van Der Kamp of Ankeny, and Alex (Danielle) Van Der Kamp of Ankeny; grandchildren Madison (Steven), Nick, Lynne, Merritt, and Chase; great-granddaughter Haven; siblings Nancy (Carroll) DePenning, Connie (Dennis) Vander Weerdt, Gail (Randy) Beyer, and Ron (Sally) Van Der Kamp; brother-in-law Scott (Vicki) Nikkel; sister-in-law Sandy Nikkel; as well as many cherished nieces, nephews, and countless friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Prairie Ridge Church of Ankeny or PATTH-Honduras Ministries of Pella in loving memory of Darrel.
