Corrie Droppert, 95

Cornelia F. “Corrie” Droppert, 95, of Hudson, died Thursday, Feb. 22, 2024, at her home. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Mar. 2, at Community Church of Hudson. Burial will be in the Hudson Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m., Friday, Mar. 1, at Locke at Tower Park, Waterloo. Memorials may be directed to the family to be distributed to her favorite charities.

Corrie was born Mar. 20, 1928, in Wijngarden, The Netherlands, to Willem and Cornelia Francosia (Noteboom) Smits. She graduated from high school and then went on to schooling to become a seamstress.  Jan. 26, 1951, she married Willem H. J. Droppert in Sliedrecht, The Netherlands. He died Sept. 24, 2018.

In April of 1951, they immigrated to the United States starting out in Harrison, SD. They farmed in New Hartford, Reinbeck, and in 1957 they moved to their current farm by Hudson.  Corrie and Bill were a team on the farm. Together, they were longtime members of Lincoln Center Christian Reformed Church until it closed, at which time, they became  members of Community Church of Hudson.

Corrie had the gift of hospitality and connecting with those around her whom she thought may need a friend. Corrie was also an excellent seamstress, sewing and mending most of the clothes for her family. She sewed everything from her own wedding dress to prom dresses and bridesmaid dresses. She loved music, reading a book, cuddling her grandkids, and in her later years, coloring in her adult coloring books.  She was a 65-year member of the Sunshine Club.

She is survived by her children: Trudy (Larry) Eggink of Pella, Carol (Glenn) Johnson of Parkersburg, Gerald (Elaine) Droppert of Lynnville, and Ron (Vicky) Droppert of Hudson; 10 grand-children; 21 great-grandchildren; brother  Bill (Ita) Smits in Australia; sister-in-law Jannie Smits in The Netherlands; in-laws in the Netherlands, Joop Droppert, Tiny Droppert, and George “Tiny” Droppert.

She was preceded in death by sisters- and brothers-in-law Pie and Jan Van Der Vlies and Piet Smits from The Netherland, Joan and Louie Noordenne, Theo and Tina Bons from Australia, her in-laws Gerard and Gertrui Droppert, Herman Droppert, Gerard and Co Droppert, Henk Droppert (who died as a child), Henk Droppert, Trudy Droppert in The Netherlands, and Dick and Corrie Droppert in Australia.
