Clark Ver Steeg, 80

Clark Renaud Ver Steeg, born June 1, 1943, passed peacefully surrounded by his family on Mar. 29, 2024, at the age of 80. His parents were Orville Ray and Myrtle Alice (Renaud) Ver Steeg of Lynnville, where he was born and raised. After graduating, he married his high school sweetheart Kathy Maschmann and moved to Grinnell. They raised their two daughters, Cindi (Ver Steeg) Kopel and Toni (Ver Steeg) Nichols, there before moving south to Mt. Pleasant for a few years, then on to settle in Springfield, MO.

Clark spent most of his younger years as a diesel mechanic for Ryder Truck Rental before moving up to a supervisor’s position, then into traveling nationwide as a software coordinator for their new inventory technology. In his downtime, he loved to fish, golf, race go-carts, and tinker in the garage or backyard. He was a lifelong fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes, Kansas City Chiefs, Kansas City Royals, and St. Louis Cardinals.

After 59 years of marriage, his wife Kathy passed away in 2021. He is survived by his brother Robert “Gene” (Dixie) Ver Steeg; his daughters Cindi (Larry) Kopel and Toni (Stephen) Nichols; and grandchildren Nichole (Mickie) Abel, Jamie Kopel, Clark (Jen) Nichols, and Brandon Kopel.

To honor Clark’s wishes, the family had a Celebration of Life Saturday, Apr. 6, at 2 p.m. with visitation following until 4 p.m. at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home, Springfield, MO.  In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to a local no-kill animal shelter or charity of your choice in his honor.
