Charles Awtry, 93

Charles Awtry, 93, of Searsboro, died Sunday evening, Dec. 20, 2020, at Montezuma Specialty Care. Graveside services were held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 23, at Hewitt Cemetery near Galesburg with Pastor George Salnave officiating.

Charles Edward Awtry, the son of Giles and Ruth (Ramage) Awtry, was born June 12, 1927, near Galesburg. At age 10, Charlie moved to Searsboro and graduated from Searsboro High School. He started helping out on the family farm at a young age and did his part. He was always very good at fixing and repairing things, and he became an amazing handyman. Over the years, Charlie built many relationships and friendships with his customers. Most days, you would find Charlie driving below the speed limit checking out the countryside on his way to see his customers or on his way home. He was a hard worker and enjoyed what he did. Following his parent’s death, Charlie did all he could do to keep his family and their farm going.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Raymond Awtry; his sister, Delores Awtry; as well as a brother and sister who died at birth.

He is survived by a brother, Wendell Awtry of Searsboro.
