Carolyn Van Wyk, 72

Carolyn R. Van Wyk, 72, of Grinnell and for-merly of Sully, died Mar. 14, 2014. Funeral services were Mar. 18 at Sully First Reformed Church. Memorials have been designated for Sully First Reformed Church Music Program. Interment was in Sully Cemetery.

Carolyn Rae Van Wyk was born in Searsboro on July 12, 1941, to Abraham and Elizabeth (Jansen) Vos. At the age of four, Carolyn and her family moved to Lynnville. She received her education in the Lynnville Schools and graduated from Lynnville-Sully High School with the class of 1959. She was the valedictorian of her class.

On June 9, 1959, Carolyn was united in marriage with Vernon W. Van Wyk at the Lynnville Friends Church. They were blessed with three children.

Vernon and Carolyn farmed the family farm for many years before retiring and moving to Sully. They were members of Sully First Reformed Church. Carolyn enjoyed singing, sewing, and gardening. She loved her family and enjoyed following her kids' and grandkids' activities.

Those left to cherish her memory are her three children: Cindy (Wes) Laverman, Kevin (Julie) Van Wyk, and Rustin (Sharla) Van Wyk, all of Sully; her grandchildren: Dawnelle Laverman, Ryan (Jana) Laverman, Levi Laverman, Joshua Van Wyk, Cale Van Wyk, Ross Van Wyk, and Shaleah Van Wyk; and her sister-in-law, Virginia Vos of Lynnville.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents; her infant brother, Robert; her husband, Vernon, on Jan. 3, 2014; her grandson, Jeremy Laverman; her brothers, Clarence, Lee, and Wilbur Vos; and her sister, Betty Huyser.
