Caleb Eugene Schultz, 20, of What Cheer, passed away in a rollover crash around 1 a.m., Sunday, May 17, 2026.
Caleb was born Sept. 16, 2005, and was born and raised in What Cheer. A visitation was held Friday, May 22, at Holland-Coble Funeral Home in What Cheer. Memorial contributions may be made to the family.
Caleb was a thoughtful young man gone far too soon. He enjoyed races, dirt bikes, ATVs, video games, music, driving around, going out to eat with friends, and just about every sport imaginable. More than anything, Caleb loved spending time with the people he cared about most. He loved his family and friends deeply, and those around him felt that love every day.
Caleb didn’t just make friends — he made people feel like family. He had a way of charming everyone he met with his smirky smile and unforgettable personality. His presence brought laughter, comfort, and memories that will stay in the hearts of so many forever. He will always be loved, deeply missed, and remembered by everyone lucky enough to know him.
Caleb is survived by his mother Teresa Van Patten of What Cheer; his father Chad Schultz of Davenport; Randy Engelhardt of New Sharon; his grandfather Fred Van Patten of What Cheer; Jeff Schultz and Sue Schultz of Lynnville; along with many aunts, uncles, cousins, and countless friends who loved him dearly.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother Liz Van Patten.
Though his time here was far too short, Caleb’s memory will live on in the stories shared, the laughter remembered, and the love he gave so freely.
