Bill Campbell, 91

Billy “Bill” Campbell, 91, died Thursday, Mar. 2, 2023, peacefully at his home with his family by his side. A visitation will be held from noon to 2 p.m., Saturday, Mar. 11, at Cox-Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell. Memorials in his name can be sent in care of Cox-Smith Funeral and Cremation Service, PO Box 163, Grinnell, IA 50112.

Bill was born July 28, 1931, the son of Stewart and Clara (Dost) Campbell, near Marshalltown. He graduated from Newburg High School in 1948. He was a veteran of the United States Army and served during the Korean War. It was through luck and mutual friends that Bill met the love of his life, Irene Main. Aug. 25, 1951, they were married at Montezuma United Methodist Church. Bill worked for Chrysler Garage, Standard Station, and Poweshiek County Implement as a mechanic. In 1961, he opened Campbell Implement and retired in 2001. Bill enjoyed being a mechanic and had devoted customers that would come several miles, just to be serviced. He could fix anything. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Bill is survived by his wife Irene of Grinnell; son Bruce Campbell of Grinnell; grandchildren Rachel (Marty) Breeden and Reanna Campbell, all of Grinnell; and two great-grandchildren Haley and Ty Breeden.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Gene Campbell.
