Beulah Blom, 87

Beulah Blom, 87, of Pella, had stable health until she became hospitalized for the first time in her life on Aug. 5, 2022, and passed away on Friday, Sept. 16, 2022, one month prior to her 88th birthday. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Sept. 20, at 1:30 p.m. at Second Reformed Church in Pella.  Memorials may be given for Hospice of Pella.

Beulah Rose (Vander Streek) Blom, the second of three daughters of John and Dirkie (Van Zee) Vander Streek, was born at home in Pella on Oct. 16, 1934. Beulah attended grade school in Pella and graduated from Pella High School with the Class of 1952. Upon completing graduation, she became employed at the Marion County State Bank in Pella. Being a bank teller, ultimately, became her lifetime working career until she retired at the age of 65 years.

Beulah met Carroll “Chuck” Laverne Blom at a bowling alley in Pella. During a blizzard, they were united in marriage at First Reformed Church on Dec. 22, 1961.  After their marriage, they became members of Second Reformed Church in Pella. Beulah and Chuck not only shared their lives together but became best friends. After they both retired, they traveled extensively throughout the United States, visiting all 48 states and parts of Canada in their motorhome.  They enjoyed camping at the Iowa State Fair, attending Old Threshers in Mount Pleasant, and ultimately arriving in the Southwest for the winters. It was while they were there that Chuck passed away following unexpected heart surgery in February 2008.

In her spare time, she enjoyed doing embroidery projects. She also enjoyed doing various word puzzles, and she was an avid Iowa Hawkeyes fan.

She is survived by her youngest sister Norma Van Weelden of Pella; sisters-in-law Donna Kaldenberg of Otley, JoAnn (Marvin) Blom of Pella, and Lavonne (Floyd) Blom of Algona; and several nieces and nephews.

Beulah was preceded in death by her husband Chuck; her parents; her sister Freda and her husband Harold Spoelstra; her brother-in-law Harley Van Weelden; her parents-in-law Tunis and Jennie (Roelofsen) Blom; and her two nephews Robert Van Weelden and Merlin Spoelstra.
