Betty Dykema, 88

Elizabeth “Betty” Mae Dykema, 88, of Marion, passed away Sunday, Jan. 31, 2016. A funeral service will be held at Peace Christian Re-formed Church, 6600 C Avenue NE, Cedar Rapids, on Friday, Feb. 5, at 10:30 a.m. A visitation will be held on Thursday, Feb. 4, from 5-8 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.

Betty was born Feb. 9, 1927, to Oney and Katie (Bruxvoort) Arkema in Sully. She married Earl Dykema on Aug. 12, 1952, in Sully. She worked in food service at the Linn Mar Schools.

Betty was an active member at Peace Christian Reformed Church. She called herself “God’s Kid” and reminded everyone she met that they were “God’s Kid” as well.

Betty is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Earl Dykema of Marion; their three children: Richard (Faye) Dykema of Palo, Susan Dykema of Anchorage, AK, Philip Dykema and Peter Lundeen of Ames; two grandchildren; two great-granddaughters; and six siblings: Alan Arkema, Lewis Arkema, Edwin Arkema, Hermina Rolffs, Grace Van Kooten, and June Rozendaal.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, and one sister.
