Amy H. Ver Steegt, 92

Amy H. Ver Steegt, 92, of Newton died Saturday, Feb. 7, 2015, at Park Centre. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 14, at St. Andrews Lutheran Church in rural Sully. The family will greet friends from 5-7 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 13, at Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory in Newton. Memorials to St. Andrews Building Fund may be left at the funeral home or the church the day of the service. Burial will be in Sully Cemetery.

Amy, the daughter of Art and Hattie (DeJong) Huyser, was born Mar. 6, 1922, in rural Jasper County. She was a lifelong resident of Jasper County. Amy was united in marriage with Floyd Ver Steegt on June 28, 1945, in Newburg. She was a homemaker, farmer with her husband, and assisted families in their homes with household duties. Amy was a member of St. Andrews Lutheran Church and enjoyed crocheting, quilting, reading, and working of the farm. She was a loving wife, mom, grandma, great-grandma, sister, aunt, and friend.

Those left to honor Amy’s life are her two sons, Vincent (Linda) Ver Steegt of Newton and Vaughn (Mary) Ver Steegt of Janesville; her six grandchildren, Sarah (Paul) Kirk, Melinda Ver Steegt, Evan (Allison) Ver Steegt, Branson Ver Steegt, Eric Ver Steegt, and Joel Ver Steegt; three great-grandsons, Alexander, Benja-min, and Grant Kirk; her sister-in-law, Lareatha Huyser of Newton; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Floyd in 1988; a son, Huyser Kevin Ver Steegt, in infancy; and her siblings, Willis Huyser, Mae Graham, Bruce Huyser, Grace Vander Werff, Ruth Heemsbergen, and Norman G. Huyser.
