Al Sneller, 74

 

Alvin Henry Sneller, 74, of Newton, died Thursday, July 20, 2023, at Park Centre, Newton. He gifted his body to the University of Iowa for research purposes. A celebration of his life will be held from 1-5 p.m., Sunday, July 30, at Holmdahl Park (The Monkey House) in Kellogg. Memorials to Kellogg Fire and Ambulance may be left at the celebration or at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory.

Al, the son of Henry and Deretha (DeGoey) Sneller, was born Sept. 8, 1948, in Oskaloosa. As a child, he lived in many places in central Iowa, graduating from Lynnville-Sully High School in 1968. July 25, 1970, Al was united in marriage with Thel Trease in Kellogg. They made their home in Newton. Al worked for Jasper County on the bridge crew and then at Vermeer for 34 years.  During that time, he also drove milk truck and worked for Tom Rawlins Construction and Dwight Rawlins Lawn Care. Al always enjoyed farming and would also help area farmers. He was a member of the AMA and the Newton Church of the Way. Al enjoyed hunting and racing motorcycles, three-wheelers, and four-wheelers. He also like to hill climb with his motorcycle. Al especially loved spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife Thel Sneller of Newton; daughters Shawna (Jeff) Clark of Newton and Sheree (Albert) Esqueda of Kellogg; grandchildren Ceaira (C.J.) and Shyann (Jayson), and Kaden; his great-grandchildren, Dallas, Sebastain, Jazzmin, Ne’Vaeh, and Kalibri; siblings Linda Tibboel of Pleasantville, Lowell (Sherry) Sneller of Pella, Connie Hayweld of Grinnell, and Cornie Sneller of Reasnor; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law Harold Tibboel.
