For the third consecutive year, Sully Locker and Market owners Jared and Stacy Nikkel brought home the hardware from the 84th Annual Iowa Meat Processors Association’s (IMPA) Convention. This year’s event was held Feb. 13-16 at Gateway Hotel and Conference Center in Ames. The couple and their employees are proving to fellow meat processors across the state of Iowa what locals already know – their products rank among the best in the business.
The Nikkels brought home three awards this year including Grand Champion Flavored Snack Stick for their honey BBQ flavor, Reserve Grand Champion Smoked Turkey, and Reserve Champion Specialty Ham. In 2019, Sully Locker and Market won Grand Champion Center Cut Smoked Pork Loin and Reserve Champion Cooked Ring Bologna. In 2018, they won Grand Champion Whole Muscle Jerky and Reserve Champion Specialty Ham.
The Iowa Meat Processors Association is an organization comprised of beef, pork, wild game, and poultry processors and allied businesses from throughout the state of Iowa. Members include slaughterers, food service companies, packers, locker operators, butcher shops, ham manufacturers, smokehouse owners, wholesalers, custom operations, retail operations, and companies that supply goods and services to the meat industry. The annual convention is just one of the IMPA’s events that allow fellow meat processors to learn from each other.

Ulrich’s Meat Market in Pella also had success at the IMPA Convention, bringing home five new award plaques for their wall. Among the awards won at the 2020 event are Grand Champion Small Diameter Smoked Cooked Sausage, Grand Champion Specialty Ham, Reserve Grand Champion Canadian Bacon, and Reserve Grand Champion Specialty Beef Products. Since 2015, Ulrich’s Meat Market has been owned by Lucas Van Wyk and Jayme and Nicki Veenstra.
