SCS shoe drive brings in about 400 pairs of shoes

SCS students will bless Hope Ministries in Des Moines with approximately 400 pairs of shoes this week – and all it took to make it happen was people cleaning out their closets.

The staff and students of Sully Christian, along with generous donations from Timothy Christian School in Wellsburg, Peoria Christian Reformed Church, other area churches, and the local community, have filled close to 40 boxes of shoes and one box of new men’s work socks. The shoes and socks were collected throughout the first semester of the school year, with a very large shoe box in the school lobby serving as the drop-off point. It was all part of the students’ goal this year of being a “Sermon in Shoes” – the 2016-17 school year theme.

“‘Sermon in Shoes’ describes the purpose of Christians to go into all the world and spread the good news of Jesus and the way of salvation,” explained SCS administrator Jim Warden.

The donated shoes will be sold at various thrift stores to help fund the projects of Hope Ministries. The students and staff at SCS thank everyone for their generous response to the “Sermon in Shoes” project. All donated items will be delivered on Friday when the fifth through eighth graders travel to Des Moines on a field trip to the Temple Theater to view a performance of “The American Revolution.”
