Poweshiek County Fair underway this week

Poweshiek County Fair

The Poweshiek County Fair activities started July 11 and 14 and continue through July 20 at the fairgrounds in Grinnell. See www.poweshiekcountyfair.org for complete details. The schedule includes the following.

The fair started July 11 with bottle calf conference judging, bake sale of food projects, pets judging, and horticulture conference judging. Tuesday, July 14 was open class day.

Wednesday, July 15

7 p.m. Poweshiek County Fair Queen Pageant with crowning of Senior King and Queen during intermission

Thursday, July 16

7:45 a.m. flag raising ceremony

8 a.m. 4-H/FFA dog obedience and handling show and exhibit building opens

10 a.m. livestock judging contest and skill-a-thon

10 a.m.-2 p.m. Heritage Park Country School open

1 p.m. 4-H/FFA bottle calf show followed by Clover Kids bottle calf show

5 p.m. cattle fitting clinic

5:30 p.m. bottle lamb conference judging

6 p.m. 4-H/FFA dog agility show

7:30 p.m. 4-H fashion show, community awards, and Hall of Fame announcement

8 p.m. Bill Riley Talent Show and exhibit building closes

Friday, July 17

8 a.m.-8 p.m. exhibit building open

8 a.m. 4-H/FFA horse show – halter

Half hour following halter classes – horse performance classes

10:00 a.m. -2 p.m. Heritage Park Country School open

10:30 a.m. Art on the Patio by Tilly Woodward

5 p.m. 4-H/FFA horse show – game classes

5-7 p.m. Key Cooperative-sponsored dinner

6 p.m. kiddie tractor pull

Saturday, July 18

8 a.m.-8 p.m. exhibit building open

8 a.m. 4-H/FFA sheep show followed by Clover Kids bottle lamb/goats and 4-H/FFA meat and dairy goat shows, 4-H Youth Council Fun/Run Walk (registration 7:30 a.m.)

Time TBA - Farm Bureau watermelon feed

1-4 p.m. – Kingdom Klowns

3 p.m. Clover Kids rabbit show followed by 4-H/FFA rabbit and cavy show

3-5:30 p.m. Heritage Park Country School and Lower Blue Point Church Reunion

5:30-6:30 p.m. church service at the Lower Blue Point Church

6:30 p.m. ice cream sundae fundraiser

8 p.m. Cody Hicks Country Music Performer

Sunday, July 19

8 a.m.-8 p.m. exhibit building open

8 a.m. 4-H/FFA beef show

1-4 p.m. Kingdom Klowns

3 p.m. 4-H/FFA llama show

4 p.m. animal costume contest

4:30-6:30 p.m. ag olympics

6 p.m. all projects selling must be signed up

7 p.m. pool party at Grinnell Aquatic Center

Monday, July 20

8 a.m. 4-H/FFA swine show and exhibit building opens

Noon all exhibits not selling released

4:30 p.m. herdsmanship awards presented

5 p.m. project sale with McIlrath Auctioneering, sale order is swine, non-livestock projects, rabbits, poultry, sheep, goats, beef, and bottle calves
