Lynnville teenager serves as honorary captain for the Twins

Trinity Arthur is surrounded by family after serving as honorary captain for the Minnesota Twins at Target Field on Aug. 31. Trinity Arthur, a 17-year-old from Lynnville who has undergone 70-plus surgeries in her lifetime, is used to making trips to Minnesota. She’s been a patient at Gillette Children’s Hospital and Clinics in St. Paul since she was a baby. But on Aug. 31, Trinity wasn’t in Minnesota for a surgery or appointment. Instead, she was there for a fun and memory-making day serving as the honorary captain of the Minnesota Twins in their game against the San Diego Padres.

As the honorary captain, Trinity was able to score the first run for the Twins, making it from third base to home plate, where she was met by the Twins’ mascot, T.C. Bear. Trinity’s family, including her parents Shannon and Miranda Arthur, older sister Aubree, younger brother Trew, and family friend Maiah Kalima were on the ball diamond to watch and support Trinity.

Trinity has several medical diagnoses, including spina bifida, hydrocephalus, scoliosis, and Chiari II Malformation. She’s had 70+ surgeries during her 17 years as a Gillette Children’s patient. The Lynnville-Sully senior was selected as the Twins’ honorary captain by Gillette Children’s Specialty Healthcare, where she receives most of her care. The Minnesota Twins are a huge supporter of Gillette.

Back in June, Gillette Children’s posted on Instagram, asking parents of patients who had receive care for scoliosis to share their child’s story. Trinity had a spinal fusion done for scoliosis in June 2020, and after sharing her story on the Instagram post, she was picked to be the honorary captain.

Though Trinity isn’t normally a big follower of the Twins, her family did live in Minnesota for eight years and they love another Minnesota team, the Vikings. The Arthurs had a fun experience at Target Field, watching the Twins go on to win, 7-2.

“After everything that Trinity has faced in her 17 years of life, this was such a fun experience for her and our family,” said Trinity’s mom, Miranda. “She never wants the attention, so it was fun seeing her on the Jumbotron and seeing her smile ear to ear!”
