Lynnville-Sully FFA’s Feed A Farmer event fuels up over 200 local farmers

FFA members Brayden Bassett, Evan Arkema, and Carter Tice hand out a meal to a local farmer crossing the scales at Key Co-op in Sully on Saturday night, Oct. 12.

Local farmers had one less thing to worry about on Saturday, Oct. 12, as they pull long hours trying to wrap up harvest before the frost hits and snowflakes start flying. The Lynnville-Sully FFA Chapter hosted their annual Feed A Farmer event at Key Co-op where they fed and fueled up over 200 farmers. Meals were distributed to farmers who crossed the Key Co-op’s scales in Sully as well as personally delivered to those working in the fields.

Mr. Jarret Horn, Lynnville-Sully FFA advisor and ag teacher, said the event was generously sponsored by Jasper County Farm Bureau and hosted at Key Co-op in Sully. Jerry Elscott, a long-time supporter of L-S FFA, generously provided the grill for the event. Mr. Horn reports approximately 15 L-S FFA members helped grill burgers, package meals, and distribute the meals to the farmers during the busy evening.

Mr. Horn expresses gratitude, on behalf of the L-S FFA Chapter, to Trish Hafkey with the Jasper County Farm Bureau and Key Co-op for allowing L-S FFA members to hold such a successful event during a busy time of year. “We look forward to improving upon it next year,” said Mr. Horn.
