Lukehart named 2025 Smoke on the Water beneficiary

Plans are well underway for 2025’s Smoke on the Water, a BBQ competition and benefit on Saturday, Aug. 23, at Old Setts Park in Lynnville.

Smoke on the Water originated in 2014 with the goal to combine a BBQ competition with fundraising to support a member of the community. Over the years, the event has seen remarkable growth in participant numbers, visitor attendance, and funds raised. Smoke on the Water has collectively raised over $170,000 for community members facing a medical hardship in the last decade.

Carol Lukehart, a lifelong resident of the area, has been named the 2025 beneficiary of Smoke on the Water. In April of last year, Lukehart was diagnosed with Glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer. She has undergone brain surgery, weeks of radiation, and multiple rounds of chemotherapy since diagnosis. She is currently undergoing a new treatment plan that includes targeted radiation and immunotherapy infusions every three weeks.

Lukehart and her husband, Monty, have deep roots in the community, and raised their two children, Shaylin and Kemper, here. She feels extremely blessed to be selected as the 2025 beneficiary. “My family and I would like to personally thank the SOTW Committee, volunteers, BBQ teams, and all of the attendees for supporting this event and those like it. You have no idea how much this means to us,” said Lukehart.
