Nearly 120 area girls in grades K-5 enjoyed an evening of getting dolled up and dancing with their dads or male chaperones at the Lynnville-Sully Community Education Foundation’s annual daddy-daughter dance held in the Lynnville-Sully Middle School gym on Saturday, Apr. 9.
“This event is always one of our favorite ones of the year because of the precious memories that are made for our local girls,” said LSCEF Director Kyra Smith.

Memories were plentiful on Saturday evening for everyone involved. The young girls were the center of attention and many arrived wearing new attire for the big night complete with their hair done, nails painted, and corsages on their wrists.
Straw bales, handkerchiefs sunflowers, and all things cowgirl tastefully decorating the middle school commons area and gym to help set the scene for the dance’s Boots and Beauties rustic theme. Even the light refreshments of hay bales (Rice Krispies Bars), lassos (licorice), and decorated cookies by Sweet Creations coincided with the rustic theme.
The girls in attendance enjoyed an hour of dancing, musical games, and even got to watch their dads battle it out on the dance floor in a friendly Mr. Twinkle Toes competition. Darin Arkema, Lynnville-Sully’s P.E. teacher and father to fourth-grader Kate, won this year’s prestigious title of Mr. Twinkle Toes for his superb line dancing skills to “Boot Scootin’ Boogie.”

Smiling girls and twirling dresses were common sights all night long at the 2022 LSCEF Daddy-Daughter Dance.
The dance was made possible by many people who volunteered their time. In addition to Smith, LSCEF board members Faye Brand, Amy Collum, Brenda Newell, and Megan Ross assisted with the organization, set up, and clean up. L-S PreK-8 Principal Mrs. Teri Bowlin also lent a helping hand on Saturday. Jeff and Heidi Corbett served as DJs and emceed the event. Several high school students earned volunteer hours for their assistance.
“The girls left wearing smiles and hopefully a memory or two that will last a lifetime. It was a really special night,” said Smith.
