LSCEF Book Exchange inspires young readers

Hundreds of new and gently used books are available for students to choose from at the LSCEF’s annual Book Exchange on Friday, Mar. 13.

There was nothing unlucky surrounding Friday the 13th for Lynnville-Sully K-5 students as the morning was a literary wonderland. The young students had the opportunity to “shop” at the Lynnville-Sully Community Education Foundation’s annual Book Exchange. Hundreds of age-appropriate new and used books spanning various authors and content found new homes with the students. The books will spark a love for reading and ignite their imaginations just in time for spring break when the students have some extra time away from the classroom on their hands.

Each student was able to choose two new books and three gently used books to add to their personal libraries. The annual Book Exchange received a generous financial boost from the Sully Lion’s Club this year. Community members also were vital in donating gently used books to be given away.

“It was a great morning to share the love of reading,” said Kyra Smith, LSCEF Director.

Smith gives special thanks to LSCEF board members Brenda Newell and Lori Nore for their help in coordinating all aspects of the Book Exchange. The Book Exchange also lured in some familiar faces who have always encouraged young readers – retired L-S teachers Carol Hite and Eileen Den Hartog volunteered their time at the LSCEF Book Exchange as did retired L-S elementary librarian and secretary Carol Ver Ploeg. L-S High School students from Mrs. Anna Arkema’s FCS classroom and Mrs. Michelle Van Zante’s business education classroom were also on hand to help students choose from the table full of books that greeted them upon arrival to the Book Exchange. Smith also gives a shout out to members of the boys and girls high school track teams for their help in hauling in boxes of books.
