Lois Van Genderen, 75, of Monroe, passed away unexpectedly, but peacefully, of a heart attack early Tuesday morning, Apr. 14, 2020. There was a small family graveside service at Gifford Cemetery east of Monroe on Saturday, Apr. 18, at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to honor Lois may be sent to the Monroe Fire Department and Ambulance, PO Box 1058, Monroe, IA 50170.

Lois Virginia (DeJong) Van Genderen was born Sept. 26, 1944, to Floris Walter and Doris (Monsma) DeJong. She attended Maple Grove Country School through sixth grade and was very active in 4-H. She graduated from Prairie City High School in 1962. She met Ronald Lee Van Genderen one Wednesday night after a church service and the rest is history! They were married Nov. 6, 1964, at Prairie City First Reformed Church. Lois worked in Des Moines until their first son was born, and then she participated in the farming operation. She loved traveling with her family. She was an active member of First Reformed Church and the Guild for Christian Service, and taught Sunday School for several years.  Later, Lois became an activity assistant at several nursing homes in the Newton area. She loved this service to others and put her whole heart into it, demonstrating patience, kindness, and love to all who came into her life.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband Ronald, two sons and daughters-in-law Jeff (Shamin) Van Genderen and Brad (Jean) Van Genderen, 10 grandkids, and three great-grandkids and one on the way, along with her sister and brother-in-law Viola (Brian) Vande Lune. She has many nieces and nephews celebrating her life.

She was preceded in death by her parents and stillborn sister.
