Fire engulfs, destroys Reasnor residence

At 8:42 a.m. Monday, Apr. 4, the Sully, Newton, and Monroe Fire Departments were called to assist the Reasnor Fire Department with a house fire at 322 North Street, directly east of the Reasnor Fire Station. The ranch-style home of Bryce and Carla Van Gorp was a complete loss; the unattached garage was saved. Carla was at home when the fire broke out after she heard a loud popping noise, saw smoke, and left the house. Bryce was at the family farm outside of town loading pigs when he was informed of the fire. The couple’s dogs were elsewhere and not at home during the fire. No injuries were reported. The Jasper County Sheriff’s Office assisted with traffic control at the scene. The cause of the fire is unknown, and the investigation will continue.

The smoke from the fire could be seen from miles away.
