Donkey Basketball coming to Sully this Friday

Donkey basketball is coming back to Sully at 7 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 24, at the Lynnville-Sully High School gym. Plan now to attend an entertaining night for the whole family and watch friends ride donkeys in a hilarious game of “basketball.” Emcees Mark Doll and Dwight Beyer will keep the game interesting. It’s sure to be a good time producing lots of laughs and the occasional donkey-versus-rider blooper. Doors wil open at 5:45 p.m. A mandatory riders meeting will take place at 6 p.m.

New this year will be a “Kiss the Donkey” contest featuring Lynnville Mayor Roy James, Sully Mayor Brent Vander Molen, and Lynnville-Sully Superintendent Shane Ehresman.

Proceeds from admission sales will be divided between the Lynnville and Sully Libraries where tickets are for sale, as well as at Great Western Bank in Sully, 1st State Bank in Lynnville and Sully, and Hometown Press in Sully. Advance tickets are for sale at a reduced cost of $7 each until 1 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 24. After 1 p.m. on Feb. 24, tickets will cost $10 at the door. Preschoolers are free.

The first game features the L-S faculty versus the Sully Business Park. L-S Alumni versus defending champions of two years ago, Co-Line, will play in the second game. A championship game will conclude “the craziest show on Earth.”

Donkey basketball is organized by the Sully Night Out Committee. L-S track teams will have concessions starting at 6 p.m., 15 minutes after the doors open, so attendees can eat before the fun begins. On the menu is pulled pork nachos, pulled pork sandwiches, hot dogs, nachos and cheese, popcorn, a variety of candy, and pop, water, or Gatorade. A bake sale will benefit the L-S Middle School trip to Washington, D.C.
