A passion for reading was reignited in the hearts and minds of Lynnville-Sully elementary students thanks in part to the free books they received at the book fair hosted by the Lynnville-Sully Community Education Foundation on Friday, Mar. 4.
The LSCEF’s annual fair put up to six books in the hands of Lynnville-Sully’s 241 elementary students. A combination of brand new and slightly used books were organized according to grade level and placed on tables. Every elementary class was invited into the high school library during designated times to choose two to three new books and three slightly-used books to add to their personal collections.
“We are happy to have five to six books in the hands of students before Spring Break starts later this week. It is always exciting to see students eager to pick out new reading material,” said LSCEF Director Kyra Smith.
The annual book fair is made possible by generous community members who donate slightly-used books, business supporters, and the LSCEF Board of Directors, who work tirelessly to ensure the event is a success. As they have in years past, Great Western Bank again sponsored the purchase of new books. LSCEF Board Members helped set up and run the book fair.
Smith expresses her thanks for helping support the school’s young readers, “A special thank you to our LSCEF Board Members for helping with the event and all of the parents and community members who donated books. We also are thankful for the financial support of Great Western Bank to help us purchase these books.”
In addition to Smith, several people deserve credit for their behind-the-scenes work. LSCEF Board Member and L-S Title I Reading Teacher Mrs. Brenda Newell and L-S K-6 Interventionist Mrs. Rhonda Ricker served as book sorters and “experts” this year, according to Smith. They helped at Friday morning’s book drive along with LSCEF Board Members Faye Brand, Lori Nore, and Megan Ross, retired L-S teacher Miss Carol Naeseth, and Lynnville-Sully’s TLC Systems and Learning Leader Mrs. Lisa Foster.
