Saturday morning, Nov. 2, 10 teams of 10-12 volunteers packaged 17,280 meals for Jasper County Hunger Relief based in Newton and associated with Outreach Program based in Union, Iowa. The two kinds of meals packaged were Fortified Rice and Bean Dinner and Fortified Apple Cinnamon Oatmeal. The packaging assembly lines were at Lynnville Friends Church FCC Building, headed by Derik Allbee, chairman of the church’s missions committee.

Bill Bennett, president of Jasper County Hunger Relief, is pleased to report all meals packaged this year have stayed in Jasper County for distribution by food pantries and churches in the county. Bennett has spearheaded meals packaging for several years in the area through various organizations.

Many of the over 100 volunteers had helped package meals in the past. Reggie Kaldenberg, of rural Sully and part of the Co-Line team of volunteers, was a first-time volunteer who said about the meals packaging, “The line is what I expected, and we all worked great together.”

The 10 teams volunteering on Saturday were: Co-Line, Lynnville Friends Church Ladies’ Bible Study, Key Cooperative, Peoria Christian Reformed Church, 1st State Bank, Lanser Family and Friends, Sacred Heart Church of Newton, Sugar Creek 4-H Club, Holy Trinity Lutheran Church of Newton, and Lynnville-Sully FFA/Ag.
