During the storm at midday on Wednesday, July 13, two trees fell on Kyle and Tamra Terpstra’s garage at their home located across from Old Settlers Park in Lynnville. Tamra said the house shook, but no one was injured and the trees were promptly removed by a local tree service so repairs could be made to the garage. It was the beginning of the damaging storm that moved on into Mahaska County, causing considerable damage in the Leighton and Oskaloosa areas. Locally, an inch of beneficial rain fell. Although not related to the storm, there was a lack of U.S. Cellular and Mediacom service most of the day on July 13 due to a downed line before the storm, and services were restored by evening.
