Four men with ties to the Sully area were honored for their various contributions to the Jasper County Fairgrounds by being named grand marshals of the 2016 Jasper County Fair parade. Ernest Eysink, Ralph J. Van Wyk, Chadwick Ver Ploeg, who now lives in Pella in retirement, and Dick Ver Ploeg led the parade through the streets of Colfax to kick off the 2016 Jasper County Fair on Monday, July 18.
Through the years, these men have been called on to help with various jobs at the fairgrounds, which include planting and watering new trees and a lot of painting. Growing up, these four men were all active members of the Lynn Grove Hustlers 4-H Club and showed projects at the Jasper County Fair back in the day. Eysink, C. Ver Ploeg, and D. Ver Ploeg were members of the Lynn Grove Hustlers 4-H Club when it was organized back in 1941. The Lynn Grove Hustlers is still an active 4-H club from the Sully area. If anyone is interested in joining 4-H, please contact the Jasper County Extension Office, 641-792-6433.
