Clark DeVries competes at AAU State Wrestling at the Casey’s Center in Des Moines last weekend. DeVries went undefeated in the A Division (third and fourth grades) and finished at the top of the podium with a 5-0 record for the tournament.
Lynnville-Sully AAU youth wrestlers competed with the best in Iowa at AAU State Wrestling on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 27-28. The two-day tournament at Casey’s Center in Des Moines is known for its strong competition, among which were seven Little Hawk wrestlers. To qualify for State, wrestlers had to finish in the top four of their District.
In the A Division (third and fourth grades), after two days of wrestling, Clark DeVries found himself at the top of the podium in first place with a record of 5-0. His teammate Wyatt Flores went 3-2 on Friday, losing in the blood round, which means he just missed advancing to Saturday and potential placement.
In the B Division (fifth and sixth grades), Royce Jansen earned himself a spot on the podium, taking eighth with a record of 4-3. Logan Wilcox went 3-2, losing in the blood round, and Moses Kay-Ostrander went 1-2.
In the C Division (seventh and eighth grades), Hunter Vos went 1-2, and Easton Collum went 0-2.
Next up for the Little Hawks will be the AAU Girls State Wrestling, which will take place this weekend, Mar. 6-8, at Alliant Energy Powerhouse in Cedar Rapids. Five girls — Sadie Nelson, Langlee Manatt, Sophia Bell, Ade Comegys, and Raelee Warrick — will represent the Little Hawks at the event.
