It took just three high-energy hours for 217 youth wrestlers to complete their brackets in the efficiently run Steve Squires Memorial Youth Wrestling Tournament hosted by the Lynnville-Sully Little Hawks Wrestling Program at L-S on Friday night, Dec. 20. Of the 217 young wrestlers, 50 of them were sporting singlets representing the Hawks. Wrestling started at approximately 5:45 p.m. following weigh ins, and the last champion was crowned shortly before 9 p.m.

Organizers of the tournament give credit for its efficiency to the many volunteers who stepped in to help Friday night. Jolee Jansen, one of the organizers and wife of coach Luke Jansen, reported parents of Little Hawk wrestlers helped with weigh ins, taking money at the door, and writing brackets. She also gives thanks to the high school wrestlers, coaches, and parents as well as grandparents and community supporters who completed tasks at the tables, MC’d the awards, and worked in the concession stand.

Little Hawk Wrestling coaches this year are Luke Jansen, Tanis Comegys, Frans Laubscher, and Wade Hamre.
