It’s time to break out the red, white, and blue and celebrate America’s freedom at Sully’s annual Fourth of July community festivities. This year’s celebrations will span several days and are guaranteed to deliver fun for the whole family.
As in years past, the Annual Tractor Ride will kick off the festivities, this year on Saturday, June 29. Thursday, July 4, popular events like the Freedom Fun Run, the parade winding through the streets of Sully, a cornhole tournament, and the Sully Lions Club lunch are all on the agenda. New this year is Touch-A-Truck near the fire station for kids of all ages, $3 per child, with hands-on opportunity to explore vehicles of all types.
This year’s Fourth of July Parade Grand Marshals are Ryk and Jan De Goey of Sully. The De Goeys have been lifelong members of the Lynnville-Sully community, living the last two decades in Sully and prior to that farming north of Lynnville. Both have been actively involved in the Sully First Reformed Church for over 60 years. Ryk began his community volunteer activities with the LSK Jaycees and then many decades with the Sully Lions Club. He also managed the Sully Retirement Homes for 13 years. Jan is part of the Sully Garden Thyme Club and also was a member of the Lynnville Women’s Club for decades. Before retirement, Jan worked for many years at L-S School, and Ryk finished his working career at Key Cooperative.
The De Goeys have been married for 60 years and have three children, Dan married to Sandy, DeAnn married to Dick Clark, and Darin married to Christy. They have seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Thank you, Ryk and Jan, for your many years of service to our L-S community, and thank you for being this year’s Fourth of July Parade Grand Marshals!
