Henry Zuidema accepts his certificate during the 4-H Hall of fame Induction at the Iowa State Fair on Sunday, Aug. 21. Zuidema has been involved with Jasper County 4-H for the better part of 75 years.

For the better part of 75 years, Henry Zuidema of rural Sully has been involved in 4-H in Jasper County. In recognition of his ongoing efforts and support of 4-H programs, Zuidema was inducted into the 4-H Hall of Fame at the Iowa State Fair on Sunday, Aug. 21.

In 1947, a group of Killduff-area youth, including Zuidema, Carroll Rohrdanz, Dick Vander Werff, and nine other boys got together and founded the Killduff Hotshots 4-H Club. Seventy-five years later, the club is still active. In the years between, Zuidema was a 4-H member and club leader, as well as a leader on the Jasper County Fairboard in the 1970s. During this time, Zuidema helped to implement many improvements to the Jasper County Fairgrounds and helped to run the horseshoe pitching contest.  Zuidema saw his children Steve, Rod, and Carna take part in 4-H, as well as his grandchildren and now great-grandchildren who are active in 4-H clubs in Baxter and Montezuma.
