Marvin Dean Cordes, the son of Darrel and Carolyn (Strong) Cordes, was born May 26, 1947, in Grinnell. He graduated from BGM High School with the Class of 1965.

May 20, 1967, Marvin was united in marriage to Carmen Kriegel at the Baptist Church in Victor. To this union four children were born: Jeff, Ken, Angela, and Kevin. Marvin enlisted with the United States Army Reserves in 1968 and was stationed at Fort Huachuca, AZ, for a short time before returning home to farm. Marvin continued to serve his country as an Army Reserve for a few more years before he was honorably discharged in 1974.

Marvin was a lifelong farmer starting at a young age with his father. He farmed many years with his father raising cattle and hogs and had several acres of row crop. Following his father’s retirement, Marvin and his son Ken began farming together. Marvin enjoyed traveling, camping, farming, spending time with his family, and above all being a caretaker for his wife Carmen. Faith and family were very important to Marvin. He was a 30-plus year member of Faith Christian Center in Montezuma and a member of Christian Farmers. Marvin was later united in marriage to Linda Witkay on July 10, 2019.

Marvin is survived by his wife Linda of Guernsey; his children Jeff (Brenda) Cordes of Pella, Ken (Heather) Cordes of Guernsey, Angela (Chris) Hofer of Tea, SD, and Kevin (Sandy) Cordes of Sully; 10 grandchildren Levi, Garrett, Coby, Ashlan, Baze, and Zane Cordes, Tristian, Ethan, Aidan, and Amelia Hofer; his siblings Diane Brooks of Arizona, Janice (Mike) Fink of Omaha, and Miriam (Bill) Bybee of Omaha; and many nieces and nephews.
