Margie June McCuen, 88, of Colfax, passed away Friday, Feb. 25, 2022, at her home. Graveside services were held Tuesday, Mar. 1, at 1 p.m. at Waveland Cemetery in Prairie City. Following the service, the family greeted friends at Prairie City Community Room for a Tea Time beginning at 1:30 p.m.
The daughter of Wilbur and Florence (Scott) Kendall, Margie was born July 17, 1933, in Gilmore City. She graduated from Colfax High School in 1951. In July 1956, she was united in marriage to Keith McCuen in Prairie City. Margie loved her home and always had an open door for friends and family to come and visit. She enjoyed talking on the phone, cooking, her cat “Wimpy,” but most of all spending time with her grandchildren.
Those left to honor her memory include her children: Kyle (Paula) McCuen of Montezuma, Kevin (Teresa) McCuen of Hartford, LuAnne (Don) Steenhoek of Reasnor, and Leona (Jeff) Lewis of Baxter; 11 grandchildren: Kurt (Andrea) Steenhoek, Joel (Alicia) Steenhoek, Kristina (Jody) Firestone, Serena McCuen, Anita (Zac) Van Sickle, Doug McCuen, Kelly Jo Rodriguez, Kyla Grunig, Benjamin (Holly Stevenson) Lewis, Jenna Lewis, and Cade Lewis; and several great-grandchildren. Also surviving are her sisters-in-law Karen Kendall, Mary Johnson, Betty McCuen, and Betty Karchner.
Margie was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters Shelby Walters and Betty Kendall, and four brothers Beryl, Lowell, Don, and Jim.
