Hendrick Lowry and the LSCEF are each $500 richer thanks to Collum Electric. Mark and Amy Collum, owners of Collum Electric Service LLC, stand with the Half-Minute Challenge winner Hendrick Lowry and LSCEF Director Kyra Smith. Lowry and the LSCEF are both $500 richer thanks to Lowry’s hot shooting and the Collums’ support of the Feb. 1 challenge.
In the final LSCEF Half-Minute Challenge of the season, a winner made all four shots in 30 seconds to claim the $500 prize. This year’s challenge was hosted by the Lynnville-Sully Community Education Foundation and sponsored by three local businesses as the featured halftime entertainment at three home Lynnville-Sully basketball games.
Hendrick Lowry, a freshman at Lynnville-Sully and the son of Brian and Carrie Lowry of Searsboro, was one of several participants whose names were drawn to compete in the challenge during halftime of the boys Feb. 1 basketball game. Lowry was the first competitor in Tuesday’s challenge. He hit his first shot at the block, banked in a free throw, swished a three-pointer, and made a half-court shot with seconds to spare in the popular contest. By completing the feat in under 30 seconds, he won $500, and as a bonus, the LSCEF also won $500.
Collum Electric Service LLC, owned by Mark and Amy Collum, was the sponsoring business Tuesday night. The Collums are devoted Hawk fans and as sponsors of the challenge, gladly donated $1,000 to be split between Lowry and the LSCEF.
“The LSCEF is very appreciative to the three businesses that helped us provide some exciting half-time fun. Of course, it wouldn’t be fun at all without those willing (or convinced) participants that tried their luck at collecting the $500,” said Kyra Smith, LSCEF Director.
Tuesday was the final opportunity for participants to try their luck.
In January, LRI and 1st State Bank served as the sponsors of the challenge during two home basketball games. Although there were a few participants who were close, no one hit all four shots in 30 seconds until Lowry’s successful attempt Tuesday night.
