Gertrude M. Van Zee, 87

                Gertrude Mae Van Zee, 87, of Pella died Feb. 17, 2019. Funeral services were held Feb. 22 at Second Christian Reformed Church in Pella. Memorial donations may be given to Cary Christian Center.

                Gertrude was born Sept. 30, 1931, to Marinus and Allie (Uitermarkt) Stravers at their home in Galesburg, Iowa.

Bob Ver Woert, 76

                Robert “Bob” Ver Woert, 76, of Sully died Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2019, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.  The family greeted friends Friday evening, Feb. 22, at Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory in Newton. Memorials to Mercy One Newton Medical Center – Emergency Department may be left at the funeral home.

Hawks’ dreams of state basketball dashed in regional final

A battle of ranked teams – fifth-ranked Lynnville-Sully and seventh-ranked Marquette Catholic – hit the hardwood on Monday, Feb. 18 for the Class 1A Region 4 girls basketball regional final at Iowa City West High School. Unfortunately for the Hawks, Marquette Catholic handed the team a season-ending loss, 69-62.
