Russell Gause, 73

Russell “Russ” William Gause, 73, of Pasadena, TX, passed away Sunday, Aug. 28, 2016.

He was born in Oskaloosa on Apr. 22, 1943, to the late Lory W. and Helen D. Gause. Russ graduated from Lynnville-Sully High School in 1961 and received a bachelor’s degree in finance and a master’s degree in economics from The University of Houston.

Russ was raised in Lynnville, a town of about 500 people. After graduating with his master’s degree from the University of Houston, he went on to have an interesting career, ranging from his time at Western Oceanic where he worked his way up to vice president, to owning several small businesses, before happily retiring to rear his three youngest sons while they went through school. He was also very involved in his community with his 10 years as committee chair of Boy Scout Troop 514 at First United Methodist Church of La Porte and most recently as treasurer of the Village Grove Community Association. While Russ loved to travel and had been to more places in the world than anyone else we know, he loved the simple things like dinners with his family and drinking wine on his porch with his wife, Susan.

Those left to honor Russell’s memory include his wife, Susan Bandy; his five children: Robyn (Gary) Vaughan, Paul (Amy) Gause, Luke (fianceé Danielle) Gause, Sam (partner Andreina) Gause, and Josh (Riba) Gause; three grandchildren: Annie Vaughan, Scarlett Gause, and Elliott Gause; and his siblings: Nancy Barnhouse, Lester (Kay) Gause, Bryce (Sheila) Gause, Joan (Gary) Ales; sister-in-law, Peggy Gause; and many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings Charles Gause and Jeanne Mays.

A memorial service was held Sept. 3 at First United Methodist Church of La Porte. The family asks that memorials be made to the American Heart Association.

The family wants to thank all friends and family for their thoughts and prayers during this difficult time and the extraordinary efforts by the Memorial Hermann TIRR staff to help Russ recover from his stroke.
